Are NYC parking signs confusing?

Is having a snowball fight with pitching great Randy Johnson a bad idea? It is difficult enough to make sense out of one parking sign on a gotcha pole, let alone two or more signs. Which sign do you pay attention to? What color sign displays a stricter rule? How many “excepts” appear on one parking sign? Is it possible to avoid an NYC parking ticket when there are three or more signs on a gotcha pole?

NYC Council Member Dan Garodnick offers a solution

Dan Garodnick (D-Manhattan) introduced a Bill on December 8, 2011, offering the following solution to this NYC parking challenge:

Signage task force.  The commissioner shall establish a task force to review department signs once every three years.  The task force shall review any relevant federal and state laws regarding the same.  The task force shall consist of eight members one of whom is a representative from the commissioner, the commissioner of police, the commissioner of sanitation and from each of the borough presidents.

§2.  This local law shall take effect sixty days after it shall have been enacted into law.

Commentary

I love Council Member Garodnick’s moxie. It is time to eliminate the parking sign ambush. The big but is…Will this Bill see the light of day?

There have been a plethora of Bills for solving the various NYC parking ticket struggles of members of the NYC driving community that have fallen into the black hole of proposed legislation. Will this proposed quixotic piece of legislation find the light, or end up in the black hole?

My gut tells me…Black hole, make some room.
