NYC’s Mystical Safety Zone
This is tough because the DOT does not clearly define what is a safety zone. Here is the definition we the public are given:
- Safety zone. The area or space officially set apart within a roadway for the exclusive use of pedestrians and which is protected or is so marked or indicated by adequate signs as to be plainly visible at all times while set apart as a safety zone.
This can cause confusion. It is better to see a picture for a clearer definition, here is a link.
A safety zone is considered a no standing area, so you may stop to drop people off and go.
