The race for the space
The Daily News reports a man won a coveted parking spot when he pulled into a hard to find parking space on 5th Street in Park Slope on the day of the crazy storm. Mario was baby sitting a friend’s SUV, who was vacationing in Ecuador.
Mario headed into a nearby building to fix a washing machine. Moments later, the crazy storm toppled a tree; completely destroying Mario’s car (oops…friend’s car).
Who’d a thunk losing the race for a coveted parking space would end up being a blessing in disguise? You can ask Marta Jiminez 56, who lives in the apartment building facing the crushed car and usually vies – unsuccessfully – for the coveted space.
“I drove by trying [Thursday] to park hereand the spot was taken,” Jiminez said. “Thank God. I’m grateful we didn’t get that spot this time.”
How long does Mario have to move his friend’s car before receiving a parking ticket? Check out 34 RCNY 4-08(m)(9). Street storage of vehicles is prohibited in excess of 7 consecutive days.
Is there a moral to this NYC parking story? Never park in the rain? Don’t fix washing machines? C’mon, I need some help here. Can any of youse guys/guyettes come up with a moral to this story? Don’t ask Mario to baby sit your car?
Please let us hear from ya.
