Knowledge of NYC parking rules is power
Joe and his buddy were cruising in circles for more than 20 minutes when a parking space miraculously appeared in front of a fire hydrant. As Joe pulls into the space, his buddy warned Joe about being issued a NYC parking ticket, and paying a hefty parking fine for parking within 15 feet of a pump.
“Not to worry” says Joe. “You are permitted to park within 15 feet of a NYC fire hydrant, as long as a licensed driver remains in the car, sitting behind the wheel, with the car keys, ready to move upon request, between sunrise and sunset”
The rogue parking ticket warrior appears on the scene
Joe’s buddy jumps out of the car and runs off to pick up a small package from a customer, whose business is located nearby.
In a NY minute, a rogue parking ticket warrior appeared, and issued Joe an illegal NYC parking ticket. Joe bites his tongue, and watches in slence as the parking ticket warrior places the dastardly orange epistle under the windshield wiper of his car
When you’re right, fight
And Joe did (with our help) and won. The tipping point was the warrior’s attempt to embellish Joe’s parking crime, and diminish Joe’s credibility by entering on the parking ticket, “DRIVE OFF.”
“DRIVE OFF” generally connotes the operator left the scene before the parking ticket is served.
However, in Joe’s case, how can Joe “DRIVE OFF” unless he was sitting behind the wheel of his car, with the keys, able to move his vehicle upon request to do so, between sunrise and sunset? The rogue warrior’s blunder proved Joe’s defense to the parking ticket.
