Parking ticket blitz expected to raise about $42M
Wowzers! Just when you thought it was safe to park in NYC again, the Evil Empire hits you with a parking ticket blitz.
“The NYPD will reassign 75 workers in its Traffic Enforcement Division to ticket-writing duties to counter the fiscal effects of the coronavirus crisis, a City Council source told The Post on Wednesday.
During fiscal 2020, which ended Tuesday, about $590 million worth of summonses were issued, the source said.
That number was projected to dip to $550 million during fiscal 2021 due to the pandemic, but beefing up enforcement should boost it to at least $592 million, the source said, adding that the number could reach as high as $596 million.”

Where and Why?
Sadly, there was no indication from the Evil Empire where the blitz will take place.
The “why” is pretty simple. “Show me the money!” Or, maybe Mayor DiBlasio’s explanation is more plausible:
“What’s clear is, we still have real problems in terms of traffic enforcement, of parking enforcement [in] areas where people are not following the laws and that creates a problem for their fellow New Yorkers.”
Nah!
Commentary
What a sorry state of affairs. Trump wants to cancel your health insurance and DiBlasio wants to take your money during a worldwide pandemic.
This is the one part of NYPD that should be defunded, but in reality, it is not law enforcement but extortion that drives government priorities.
deBlasio also plans to increase ‘2nd hour’ metered parking fees in the outer boroughs:

Wow! Thanks for your contributions to the blog. Regards, Larry
While the city continues taking away thousands of parking spaces for bars/restaurants to do business (no problem with that). do NOT think for one second adding parking/other violations weren’t part of the plan.
Tim,
Thanks for your insight, Tim!
