Parking nightmares
NYC parking nightmares happen all the time. Who amongst us hasn’t spent 25 minutes circling the block for a vacant space? Likewise, dancing the street cleaning polka has been a regular test of our endurance since a rich guy parked the first car on an NYC street.
That is to say, there are normal, run-of-the-mill parking nightmares. On the other hand, certain roadway transgressions need to be terminated with extreme prejudice.
How would you rate this bad behavior on a scale of 1-10? Ten, being the worst. Here are three reports by ABC Eyewitness news.
ABC Eyewitness News parking nightmares
Here’s one of my favorite examples of a wise guy who should be excommunicated from the neighborhood. How do you rate his bad behavior?
You gotta be kidding me. Imagine if you parked on the sidewalk in your neighborhood? How fast would you get a $115 ticket and tow?
This guy belongs in the parking nightmare hall of fame. How would you rate this bad behavior, 1-10?
Muni-Meter Messup
Jane was late for a business meeting in Manhattan. She nailed a beautiful parallel parking maneuver on the first try. But, lo-and-behold, she spotted a vacant space and beat another car to the spot. Bravo!
Meanwhile, she got out of her car, walked up to the muni-meter, and inserted her credit card. Can you guess what happened next?
The muni-meter rejected her credit card. What’s worse was that all the muni-meters in NYC rejected all credit cards due to a glitch in the software. And worse yet, the Evil Empire insisted parkers pay for parking while they unglitched the glitch.
In other words, make a deal with your children to borrow their change! And carry a bucketful of coins to pay for parking. You can’t make this stuff up. Were you caught in this parking nightmare?
How would you rate the Evil Empire’s solution?
Nurses ordered to pay for unavoidable parking tickets while treating COVID-19 patients
Nurses who bravely reported for duty during the COVID-19 pandemic were rewarded with a boatload of costly parking tickets. Their stories are heartbreaking. On the one hand, these front-line fighters are hailed as heroes. Yet, they are told to pay for parking tickets they couldn’t avoid.
This insensitive behavior exists in a class by itself. It is truly the devil’s work!
Commentary
Sadly, we have to differentiate between bad and serial killer parking nightmares.
In other words, why do we have to deal with a bad neighbor who thinks the Evil Empire deeded him the public sidewalk as a lifetime achievement award? Why? Because he was a retired cop? What about retired firefighters, nurses, wartime field docs? C’mon man. You devoted a lifetime to enforcing the law, not ignore it.
The Evil Empire screwed up when muni-meters stopped accepting credit cards. I loved listening to all the stakeholders passing the buck. And pointing their accusing fingers at other parties. No one wanted to accept the blame. Relay racers should pass the baton as skillfully as these entities passed the blame.
But, the Evil Empire was happy to accept your money (or your children’s change).
Finally, the Evil Empire sunk to a new low by ordering nurses to pay parking fines while they risked their lives helping COVID-19 patients survive. If #10 is the worst rating, this bad behavior is off the scales!
I’d love to read your thoughts. Would you please share ’em with us?
Be safe.
