Holiday parking mistakes result in you seeing orange.

The Evil Empire has injected the color orange into the holiday season. This ferocious little epistle is punishing the NYC driving community for shopping and parking in NYC. However, there may be a small respite in sight known as “major legal holidays.” Parking rules are suspended, and hungry meters are forced to diet on these wonderful days.

On a “major legal holiday,”

• ASP rules are suspended
• You do not have to feed the meters,
• And, you do not have to obey parking signs (UNLESS the parking limits are for all days or anytime).

On Christmas, green and red beats orange!

When a major legal parking holiday falls on a weekend, Sunday AND Monday are both major legal parking holidays. Yup, In the wacky world of NYC parking tickets, Christmas day is the real Christmas, but Monday is the day Christmas is observed for parking ticket purposes. Confused…I don’t blame you.

I’ll repeat for the benefit of the skeptics, Sunday and Monday are both major legal parking holidays.

How about New Years’?

Once again New Years is a twin. New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1, 2012, and the following day, Monday, January 2, 2012, are both major legal holidays.

• ASP rules are suspended,
• You do not have to feed the meters, and
• You do not have to obey parking signs (UNLESS, the parking limits are for all days/all times; or anytime).

It’s true…I promise. Two days to celebrate for one holiday.
