The 4th of July is a major legal parking holiday in NYC
July 4th is one of six major legal parking holidays in NYC. A major legal parking holiday in NYC means:
- You do not have to feed the meters
- You are not required to obey parking signs UNLESS the rule displayed on the sign is in effect all days or at any time.
- Street cleaning rules are suspended
This is a wonderful time to enjoy peaceful parking in NYC.
Enjoy the festivities!
What is different about this Independence Day 2023?
This year Independence Day falls on a Tuesday. So, my question is, will your employer give you off on Monday, July 3rd?
Most importantly, remember that you have to obey all parking rules on Monday, July 3rd. Likewise, Monday is not a parking holiday in NYC.

Major legal parking holidays in NYC are wonderful. You get to sleep late because you don’t have to move your chariot for street cleaning. Meanwhile, you save some extra buckeroos since you don’t have to feed the meters. Likewise, you don’t have to obey the parking signs except for the grumpy ones that are in on all days and anytime. Pretty nice, huh?!
Mostly importantly, please be safe and park safely!
July 4th 2023 is Tuesday, and July 3rd 2023 is Monday, so I believe there is a typo in “Tuesday, July 3rd” in the following paragraphs:
