The 4th of July is a major legal parking holiday in NYC
July 4th is one of six major legal parking holidays in NYC. A major legal parking holiday in NYC means:
- You do not have to feed the meters
- You are not required to obey parking signs, UNLESS, the rule displayed on the sign is in effect all days or anytime
- Street cleaning rules are suspended
This is a wonderful time to enjoy peaceful parking in NYC.
Enjoy the festivities!
What is different about this Independence Day?
This year Independence Day falls on a Sunday. Ergo, the Evil Empire declared that Sunday the 4th of July and Monday the 5th of July are both Major Legal Parking Holidays. How about that!

Commentary
Major legal parking holidays in NYC are wonderful. You get to sleep late because you don’t have to move your chariot for street cleaning. You save some extra buckeroos since you don’t have to feed the meters. And, you only have to obey the parking signs that are in effect all days and anytime. Pretty nice, huh?!
But, this July 4th is a very special day. Our wonderful country is making great progress fighting the horrible COVID-19. That is to say, more of us are making plans to celebrate with friends and family whom we haven’t seen for many months. I’m thrilled about that.
Mostly importantly, please be safe!
