To clarify, every answer you get right will significantly reduce the chances of getting a parking ticket. Knowledge of the rules and how to park safely is your best defense against an aggressive Parking Ticket Warrior.
In conclusion. put the remote control down or give your thumbs a rest from texting. In other words, take the final quickie quiz challenge for 2017.
You’ll be glad you did.

Question #3
True or False? The green car is parked legally on a Tuesday at 9 am (Click on the image below to enlarge)
Question #4
True or False? If I renew my registration on time but don’t get the new registration sticker in the mail before the old registration expires, I can beat a parking ticket for:
- 4-08(j)(1). Vehicle must be properly registered
- 4-08(j)(3). Vehicle must display valid registration sticker
Question #5
True or False? I have a 5-minute grace period to walk to a muni-meter and pay for time, but I don’t have to display the receipt on my dashboard within the 5-minute grace period.
Answer #1
1.True or False? You don’t have to pay for the time if you park on a Wednesday at 10 am.
FALSE. The Evil Empire goofed. Check out the narrow yellow narrow (see, green arrow). The narrow yellow sign says, “meters not in effect above times.” What it should have said was, “meters not in effect at above times and days” because the Evil Empire intended that the muni-meter didn’t take your money for street cleaning days.
However, because of the omission, a driver can park without paying the muni-meter on all days between 9 am, and 10:30 am.

Answer #2
2.True or False? A bus stop starts at the bus stop sign and extends in the direction of the arrow(s) until the next parking sign, fire hydrant, or driveway
FALSE. A bus stop starts at the bus stop sign_and extends in the direction of the arrow(s)_until the next parking sign_or, if none, the end of the block. The location of a fire hydrant or a driveway down the block from a bus stop doesn’t mean anything. They do not designate the end of a bus stop zone.
Answer #3
3. True or False? The green car is parked legally on a Tuesday at 9 am (Click on the image below to enlarge)
True. Because:
- The arrow on the bus stop sign pointed away from the green car
- And, the fire hydrant sign specifically permitted parking within 15 feet of the fire hydrant on Tuesdays
Answer #4
4.True or False? If I renew my registration on time but don’t get the new registration sticker in the mail before the old registration expires, I can beat a parking ticket for:
- 4-08(j)(1). Vehicle must be properly registered FALSE
- 4-08(j)(3). Vehicle must display valid registration sticker TRUE
Anser #5
5.True or False? I have a 5-minute grace period to walk to a muni-meter and pay for time, but I don’t have to display the receipt on my dashboard within the 5-minute grace period.
TRUE. The start time on the muni-meter receipt must be within 5-minutes of the issuance time of the parking ticket</spa.
For number 4 you wrote: “But even if the bus stop arrow pointed to the green car, the parking sign to the right of the green car specifically permitted parking on Tuesdays between 8 am and 6 pm”.
It was my understanding that the more restrictive sign will always win. So the bus’ no standing —> vs parking permitted Tuesdays between 8 am and 6 pm <— the no standing wins.
Hi, Lawrence,
Good afternoon.
You are absolutely and totally correct for the exact reason you stated.
I just got a bus stop parking ticket. Ouch!
Thanks so much for the heads-up.
Regards,
Larry
It was my understanding that the more restrictive sign will superscieed the less restrictive one if they both conflict with each other. For question 4 you mentioned this: True. Because:
The arrow on the bus stop sign pointed away from the green car
But even if the bus stop arrow pointed to the green car, the parking sign to the right of the green car specifically permitted parking on Tuesdays between 8 am and 6 pm
If the bus stop sign pointed toward the green car it would be a no standing zone and the other sign painting toward the car and the bus stop sign was a parking permitted Tuesday between 8 am and 6 pm, the bus stop sign’s no standing should out rule the parking permitted and the ticketed will be issued. I received a ticket in the exact same scenario back in November. There was a NO STANDING 6 AM to 6 PM —> and NO PARKING 7 AM to 4 PM SCHOOL DAYS <— sign. I parked between these two signs at 5:51 PM on a school day.
Thank you.
Lawrence,
Great catch. You are absolutely correct.
My old AND bad.
Thanks so much for the heads-up.
Regards,
Larry
