NYC parking meters have gone to graveyards each and every one
Well, not yet. A year-long NYC parking meters removal project began on a chilly, September morning in Manhattan. The remaining old, tired, no-longer-trendy, parking meters are targeted for removal during the next twelve months. And, will be replaced by shiny new, environmentally friendly, powered by solar panels. super meters.
What’s the benefit of the new, solar-paneled muni-type parking meters, anyway?
“There are a number of benefits to using Solar Parking Meters rather than conventional ones. Solar Parking Meters do not require electrical wiring, which means that they are considerably easier to install. Since Solar Parking meters can most often accept either coins, credit card or card, they are quick and easy to use. Best of all, since Solar Parking Meters operate using the renewable energy sun, they are harmless to the environment and carry no operating costs. This makes Solar Parking Meters a responsible and economical choice.”
DOT commissioner, reaction:
“I think they’re beautiful,” Janette Sadik-Khan, the transportation commissioner, said of the new devices, which feature digital screens and colorful buttons. She laughed: “I mean, maybe.” I’m just a transportation expert at this point, but I think they’re sleek.”

Cool Hand Luke must be rolling over in his grave.
What if you get two parking tickets, one right after the other? Any defense?
