Were the renovations to the “Parking ticket online tool” simply a fresh coat of paint?
Or did the changes make it easier and faster to dispute an NYC parking ticket? Spoiler alert, the recent renovations were substantive and very helpful.
- I’ll show you what the new, improved parking ticket tool looks like
- I’ll describe how to use it
Without further adieu, here’s the new parking ticket online tool
The first and most important step in the process is finding the new tool online. Here’s a link to the start page.
The start page:
When your answers to the following questions are, ‘YES,’ you’re ready to fight the good fight online
-Have you prepared the final draft of your defense certification on MS Word, Evernote, Notes, or some other editing tool?
-Are you ready to copy and paste your defense certification in the box on the parking ticket tool?
-Have you prepared your exhibits?
-Are you ready to upload ’em
If so, click the “Dispute a Ticket Online” blue button directly under the page heading in the image above.
You’ll be taken to the page below to tell the Evil Empire what your relationship to the parking ticket is. Here’s what it looks like
If you are the owner or driver of the vehicle, fill in the first square and then click the “Continue” button
Let’s Fight!
Here’s what the page looks like
-Enter the 10-digit violation number in the box and click the grey, “Search” button
You’ll be transported to the page below:
-Copy and past your defense certification in the box labeled, “Enter Defense”
Drag and drop your exhibits here:
Enter your contact information here:
-Review your defense certification
-Review your exhibits by clicking on the file name
Click the submit button (not shown here). You’re all done.
It generally takes about 10-14 days to get the judge’s decision. It will be mailed to your email address.
Commentary
I really liked the previous iteration of the Tool. But, the new renovations made the Tool
-Much easier to use in general
-Even easier to upload evidence files
- The drag and drop feature makes uploading many files a breeze
- Clicking on the name of the file immediately shows you an image of the exhibit
-The entire dispute is handled on one web page. You no longer leave one webpage and journey to another web page to upload your evidence files.
Kudos to the Evil Empire for making a process that even I, an old dinosaur, can use.
Here’s a link to a compendium of my reviews and descriptions of the prior versions of the Dispute a Parking Ticket Online Tool.
Do you want a laugh? Read about how I fought my ticket (years ago) and lost!
Hi Larry,
Actually I do not have a comment. I have a question. Just today I’ve installed mobile application, named Winlt. According to the description, it helps fight parking and traffic tickets with advocates help. At least you pay them twice as less cost of the ticket if they won. Otherwise – nothing. Have you heard about this application, what do you think about it. Would you recommend to use it in cases, when you are not so obviously or necessarily right.
Thanks in advance. As usual, I appreciate your help (not in a first time).
Sincerely
Hi, Igor,
Good morning.
Great question.
Yes. I know WINIT and most of the apps that fight NYC parking tickets.
However, I’ve never used any of the apps so I can’t comment on the
experience.
But, I’m happy to comment in general about using an app to fight an NYC parking ticket
Apps don’t fight parking tickets, people fight parking tickets.
We live in a world of Smartphones and conduct most of our business on them.
So, you click the app, enter some information about you and your ticket.
Maybe you upload your registration.
Maybe they ask for photographs.
They fight your ticket (who actually fights your ticket?)
They notify you of the result
Do they appeal if they lose?
Can they supply you with your defense statement and evidence so you can appeal?
There are two general categories of defenses, Required Element Defects, and Substantive Defenses.
So, if the plate is misdescribed and you submit the proper proof (I offer photographs of the plate, sticker, and registration) you win.
But, what if your car is registered in Ohio and the registration expiration date is omitted (but the month/year of expiration is displayed on the plate), what documents or photographs does the app ask for if any? A registration alone is not sufficient to win.
A substantive defense is like you stopped temporarily to expeditiously drop off a passenger at the curb and leave immediately, does the app ask for a witness statement from your passenger or a receipt from the store? What does the app ask for? The registration is not enough
Bottom line, it depends on the type of ticket and the nature of the proof required to beat it.
You can’t beat a fire hydrant ticket with a defense that you parked more than 15 feet from the hydrant with just the vehicle registration.
Good luck.
Regards,
Larry
Hi Larry,
I’ve read your blog and found it to have very useful information. I just couldn’t find anything on the ticket I got recently. It was an Alternate Side Parking Ticket. The sign clearly stated the time as 11:30 am- 1:00 pm. The warrior however listed the time as 11:30am- 7pm. Is this sufficient enough to fight it as defective? On a side note, the time of offense was 11:57 am (not sure would make a difference or not)
Thanks in Advance. I appreciate your help
Hi, Jonathan,
Good morning.
You’re a winner!
Days/Hours a rule is in effect is a required element.
Your defense is that the hours of the rule regulating the place of occurrence were misdescribed.
(Make sure you offer the proper proof).
Regards,
Larry
Love your site. Saw the response re: WinIt above. However, I’m wondering if it is better to dispute a ticket in person or online/via the new NYC app itself? I have all photographic evidence. Debatable about being in a bus zone, but I was clearly parked at number 260, while the ticket says I was parked in front of #262, which would have been a violation.
Would it be better to submit documentation via app, or argue in person? Thanks in advance!
Hi, Remi,
Good afternoon.
I’ve never used the NYC App. I always fight tickets online on my desktop computer (Easier to prepare exhibits for this old guy 69).
A couple of tips:
-I’ve recently lost a couple of disputes because the wrong location and the correct location were both in the restricted area (my cases involved a bus stop violation and no parking violation). The judge said both locations were in the restricted area so the mistake didn’t matter. The appeals panel affirmed.
-How do you handle the judge saying that you moved your car?
I think you may be better off fighting this one in person so you can reply to the judge’s questions as long as you’re comfortable with the give and take of a hearing and have very little time to present your argument.
Let me know how you fare, Remi.
Good luck!
Regards,
Larry
Do you still represent clients? I have a commercial fleet of delivery trucks?
Hi, Leo,
I asked Dan and Ellie to get in touch with you.
Good luck.

Larry
